Description

In this workshop, teachers will take their learning of the WIDA ELD Standards to the next level: they will learn how to design a unit with the lessons organized around the WIDA ELD Standards and the teaching phases of the Teaching and Learning Cycle. Teachers should come with a unit that they want to develop as a result of this work that they want to work through in this learning. Prior knowledge of the WIDA ELD Standards architecture is desired.

Outcomes include -

  • Apply the Key Language Uses, the Language Expectations, Language Functions and Features to design a unit with a focus on language development for Multilingual Learners.
  • Apply the knowledge of the phases in the Teaching and Learning Cycle or the Mode Continuum to scaffold students’ learning from speaking to writing.
  • Create activities for Deconstruction and Joint Construction the Teaching and Learning Cycle (TLC) as a pedagogy of macro and micro scaffolding.

This workshop is FREE for Title III Consortium member districts and $200.00 for non-member districts.
